D.C. considers "commuter tax Washington, D.C., could join the list of cities that tax nonprofits and other non-governmental employers on the basis of the number of employees they hire, according to ASAE. The D.C. Tax Revision Committee is once again floating the idea of an annual "local services tax" of $50 to $100 per employee. The argument for the tax is that many city businesses employ workers who live outside the District but still use its services, so a tax on employees who more evenly distribute the burden of providing those services. Other cities already have adopted similar taxes. Pittsburg levies a $52-a-year tax on employees, while Denver levies $117 annually.… Read More
